Did you feel that?

Why is that the phrase everyone uses after an earthquake? I don’t mean after a large one, or when you’re near the epicenter, but when the earth moves just a bit under you.

It was a fairly uneventful day, until a little after 4pm. I was the only one left in my department still in the office. Working and listening to an audiobook. All of a sudden, I felt like I was experiencing vertigo. Considering I’ve been out of Adderall for a week (I did get a notification that it was FINALLY ready today), I wasn’t sure if it was an earthquake, or all in my head. However, immediately after it happened, my daughter calls. I pick up the phone to hear, “Mom, did you feel that?” Right as people from other departments and offices all come out and say, “Did anyone else feel that?” Turns out, it wasn’t in my head after all. I’ve been in earthquakes before. I’ve been in big earthquakes. I’ve experienced multiple aftershocks. I’ve been scared shitless. This was just a little jostling. At least, here, about 4 hours away from the epicenter.

Cue Carole King’s, “I feel the earth move,” playing in my head… thank you my tiny little brain DJ.
