Scattered pieces

abstract painting

I really need to buy an N-94 mask. These paint fumes are getting to me.

I actually drew the shapes on this before I started painting. But, to be fair, it took me about 45 seconds and it was just funky shapes without rhyme or reason. Then I started with blues. Realizing that I wasn’t going to have enough variety for the amount of shapes, I added the greens, then the purples, then the grays. I was determined not to grab any warm colors, because I am not feeling very warm.

After the colors were done, I went outside and sprayed the hell out of it with matte setting spray. Good god, the fumes.

Then I took my silver chrome paint marker and outlined all of the shapes. It looked… blah. Like a Kindergartener painted it. I took a break to pack up a couple CDs I sold on eBay.

On a side note… who still buys CDs? And who still buys USED CDs on eBay? I’m not talking collector’s editions or limited editions. I mean, with services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music (my app of choice) and the ability to listen to any song at any time, why buy CDs? I have not owned a CD player since I got rid of my last car in 2018. I finally decided to sell all of my CDs (except NIN, Tool, Rammstein, Deftones, Muse, or A Perfect Circle). The fact that people are buying these, is astounding.

Then I saw the box of bubble wrap in our garage and had the idea of using that as a kind of stamp. I painted some gold and black then pressed it onto the painting. It looked awesome but wasn’t quite done. So I took my needle tip bottles of white and black and did a VERY rough outline (if you want to call it that) of the shapes.

Two more coats of setting spray later, and…. VOILA,

I. AM. OBSESSED.
