Therapy

It’s what’s best for her… whether she likes it or not.
I’ve been arguing with my daughter for over a year now to go to therapy. We tried the online Better Help, but she didn’t take to it. Not that I blame her, I tried it too, but there’s something to be said about having a conversation in person versus chatting on your phone. She was convinced that she didn’t need it. That just talking to me about things was good enough.
Here’s the thing. While we do have a very close relationship, and she knows that she can tell me anything, I know she doesn’t, I’m not naive. I’ve explained that talking to someone who has no preconceived notions, no stakes in matters, is liberating. That, no matter what she says, there will always be part of her that holds back from me because of any possible repercussions or opinions that she would take very personally.
Well, finally, her doctor didn’t really give her much of a choice. She was basically prescribed therapy… and today was her first session. And guess what? She came out saying how liberating it felt to get things off of her chest.
When will she learn that I’m usually right?
