Toxic wasteland

Not a fan of this weather.
There’s currently a bomb cyclone hitting California. The wind are crazy, the rain is pouring, and the thunder is… rolling? (or is that just a Garth Brooks song?) Anyway, because we’ve been in a drought, the ground isn’t able to absorb the rain, and with all the fires, there’s a lot of fire debris, which is all a recipe for flooding disaster. It makes it look like we’re going to be out of the drought, but I’m interested to see what it’s going to look like after the ground starts to absorb all of the water.
The drive home wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I got home RIGHT as the rain started dumping. There was a lot of wind, but nothing I haven’t driven through before. When I finally got home, I went to check on my daughter. She was laying under her covers. She wasn’t afraid, she’s filled with anxiety about school already… and they’ve only been back for 2 days. I really need to get her to a doctor. She wanted me to lay down with her, which I did. I said it would only be for a few minutes… I woke up two hours later. Not sure it was exhaustion taking over, or the fact that she has her bed beside her window and the sound of the rain was kind of soothing. Either way, impromptu nap.
I considered not painting… but I made myself. I got some new art supplies tonight… including a 10” pallet knife. Well, really, it’s a joint putty knife for contractors, which means that it’s metal… sharp metal. Being me, I sliced my finger while getting it out of the plastic. I got lucky, the slice was at an angle, because if it wasn’t, it would be a lovely hospital trip during a storm. It bled quite a bit, so much so that two bandaids did nothing. I had to have gauze and wrapped it in tape. I looked like a cartoon character who hit their thumb with a hammer.
Thumb injury aside, I finally sat down to paint. I got two textures, one is “glass beads” which makes it look like little bubbles, and crackle paste. The paste didn’t work like I wanted it to, but I think it’s because I used craft acrylic paint instead of the Liquitex heavy body acrylic I should have. The glass beads worked. By the time I was done, it looked like some dystopian coast of a toxic wasteland.
If this storm doesn’t stop soon, we just might end up in a toxic wasteland.
