Growing up

Nothing makes you feel old quite like taking your kid to their very first real job interview.

I woke up early today, not because I have work (I’m on a four day mental health vacation), but because I had a French lesson with my tutor at 8:30. I love and dread my lessons. My tutor is great, she’s in her mid 20’s, lives in Bordeaux, and spend her early childhood in the US, so she’s easy to understand and her English is excellent. However, I get so nervous. It’s one thing to go on to my Babble app and have it determine if I’m pronouncing things correctly, it’s a completely other thing to have a casual conversation with an actual French speaking person. I’ve been studying with her for almost a year, and it has helped my French grow by leaps and bounds. So, I shall endure the nerves.

I then spent the morning deep cleaning the house. Even mopping the floors and dusting. Because if I’m going to be a homebody hermit for the next four days, I need my surrounding to be spic and span.

In the afternoon, it was time to take my kiddo to her first job interview, at Panda Express. To say that she was nervous, is an understatement. I refused to be there when she did it because 1. not sure it would make a good impression if “mommy” was hovering and 2. my presence would only make her more nervous. So I went grocery shopping. She said it went well, but she did have trouble keeping eye contact and she did stutter a bit. The guy even asked if it was her first interview, to which she confirmed. It’s good practice, even if she doesn’t get the job. Plus, she has another interview tomorrow for a job that she really wants.

The grow up so fast.
