On our own

The house is still and quiet.
We have no children in this house. The boyfriend’s kids are at their moms and my kiddo is on her camping trip. There’s no sound of the Playstation. No going up and down the stairs. No opening of the pantry door a million times just to say there’s no food (btw, there is, they’re just picky). No, “Mom, I need…”, “Mom, can I…”, nor “Mom, I’m hungry.”
It’s just been me and the boyfriend and the animals existing in the same space. What do I mean? Well, I’ve made it a point to have a “to-do” list today, since it’s my last day of vacation, and have had my headphones on. The boyfriend has been doing his own thing… movies and managing his obscene amount of eBay nonsense (don’t ask, I don’t have the wherewithal to explain). The animals are being, well, animals…. lazy, lazy animals.
Is this what my future will look like when the kids all leave the house?
