Did I step into the Twilight Zone?

The day started alright, I guess. The morning was calm, for the most part. Then the afternoon arrived. My supervisor, or team lead, or whatever you want to call her, told us that she was stepping down from her role. I swear, my blood pressure went through the roof. Now, please, don’t get me wrong, I like my VP. A lot. She’s the one who found me and recruited me to the company. A company I love and I will eternally be grateful to her. She’s also a person who has so much going on in her head, that sometimes it can be hard to keep up. Just when I’m grasping what she just said, she’s already two topics ahead. Being as she’s a VP in charge of a large group in a large company, with a ton of responsibilities, I have my concerns. I know that I’m overthinking it, because, well, that’s what I do. And I’m sure that it’ll be fine.

After that bombshell, I immediately had a meeting to negotiate cost with a vendor. A vendor that I have mixed feelings about. They’ve been collaborating with the company for the better part of a decade. They’re very knowledgable in what they do. I also really like most of their work. However, my hackles rise anytime someone tries to get into the weeds, like I don’t know what they’re talking about, to try to justify themselves. It makes me feel talked down to. Like, I’m just some dumb blonde who doesn’t know anything. When I interrupted them to ask why the went the way that they did when they could’ve saved a lot of time doing it the other way (also using technical terms) and thus wouldn’t have to charge so much for time and labor, they changed their tune. I was able to cut their costs almost in half. So there.

With work still on my mind, I headed home. Tonight, we celebrated the boyfriend’s son’s 18th birthday. He chose sushi (yay) and the sushi restaurant that I don’t care for (boo). It was okay. WAY over priced for what we got… $9 for miso soup? Are you kidding me? I then spent the rest of the night being crafty and artsy, trying to process the day.

What a day it was.
