Lead the way

Watercolor and I have a complicated relationship. I love the look of watercolor, but have never liked how difficult it can be to control it… because it’s not really meant to be controlled.
I have these AMAZING watercolor pens that my boyfriend bought me from Arteza (not sponsored… but I wouldn’t say no if they asked). I usually use them straight. Meaning, more like paint markers than true water color. It comes with the pen that you fill with water, but I never use it. The problem with that is the paint in the pens runs out much quicker that way. Considering these are the cheapest pens in the world, I figured I should give the “water” part a chance.
While watching stand-up comedy on Netflix (love, LOVE Iliza Shlesinger), I just started grabbing colors and painting. I went top to bottom, starting with the blues. Painting a messy splotch then going over with the water pen just to see how it flows. When I was done, I really LOOKED at the painting, and noticed that it kind of looked like a landscape. I ran with it. I added more definition in the lines. Used my acrylic paint pens to add a path, stars, and bare trees.
To me, this is my art’s way, my brains way, of telling me that I’m on the right path. As long as I keep letting go, of continuing to create with my heart instead of my head, I’ll find my way.
